Susan Hay Keene, NH Death – Most Dedicated Activist And Business Consultant Has Died

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Susan Hay, who passed away peacefully in her sleep  at Cheshire Medical Center. After an eight-month battle with cancer, Susan’s unwavering strength, optimism, and commitment to creating a better world for others left an indelible mark on all who knew her.

Susan’s presence in our community was a gift. She was a force of nature, driven by an unyielding determination to make the world a kinder, more just place. From the moment she made Keene, NH, her home in 1996, Susan became an integral part of the community, tirelessly working to bring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s dream of equality and social justice to life. She moved here after a successful career in New York City and New Jersey, where she worked in human resources at National Grange Mutual Insurance Co.

Following her retirement in the early 2000s, Susan dedicated herself to a lifetime of activism, advocacy, and service, focusing especially on immigrant rights, social justice, and education reform. She was involved in a wide array of initiatives, from serving on the school board to working with Democratic committees and engaging in conversational canvassing to make a difference in the lives of others.

One of her most impactful contributions was co-founding Project Home, a vital initiative supporting immigrants and refugees. As a passionate advocate, Susan took on a leadership role in the organization until very recently. Her tireless work has touched many lives, and she will be remembered for her boundless energy, her love for humanity, and her relentless belief in the potential for change.

Even in the darkest moments of her illness, Susan showed us the true meaning of resilience. She often reminded those around her, “This is not a tragedy. When a mother cannot protect her baby, that is a tragedy.” Her perspective, wisdom, and compassion were a beacon for all who encountered her.

Susan’s legacy of kindness, compassion, and activism will live on in the many lives she touched. Her memory will forever be a source of inspiration and a guiding light for those who continue to fight for justice, equality, and human dignity
